Abstract: This article provides a comprehensive and thorough analysis of the process of green transformation of the local economy in Ukraine under contemporary economic, social, and environmental challenges. The aim of the research is to identify the main factors that determine the success of implementing sustainable environmental and energy practices at the level of local communities, as well as a comprehensive assessment of their impact on economic development in the regions. The article discusses in detail the key barriers and challenges that hinder and slow down the transition to a sustainable economy at the local level. In particular, it highlights the insufficient level of financial support from the government and international donors, the lack of qualified specialists, and legislative restrictions that complicate the implementation of cutting-edge technologies. The article pays special attention to the analysis of practical cases of energy-independent communities in Ukraine, which demonstrate successful examples of implementing sustainable development and green technologies, despite existing economic, social, and institutional challenges. The experience of these communities in the fields of green energy development, energy efficiency, waste management, and climate adaptation is examined, confirming the efficiency of a comprehensive approach and the active involvement of local residents in the implementation of green transformation. The conclusions of the article underscore the importance of a comprehensive and systemic approach that takes into account the socioeconomic characteristics of regions and the specifics of local communities for the effective implementation of green transformation at the local level. In particular, it emphasizes the need for integrating green initiatives into regional development strategies, increasing the level of environmental awareness among the population, and creating favorable conditions for the development of innovative ecological projects. The presented results may be useful for researchers, local government practitioners, and developers of sustainable development strategies in Ukraine, contributing to enhancing ecological security and improving the quality of life in communities.
