Abstract:
The article defines the problems and prospects of energy security in the regions of Ukraine. It notes that each region of Ukraine has its own characteristics of the energy system, varying levels of resource availability, infrastructure capacity, and degrees of risk. While some regions are actively developing the potential of green energy, others suffer from destruction, insufficient generation, or limited opportunities to connect to the national energy grid. This situation requires a comprehensive approach to analyzing regional aspects of energy security, identifying key threats, and finding ways to enhance the resilience of the country’s energy system in general. It is noted that to understand the current state and prospects of energy security, it is necessary to examine the structure of the country’s energy system. Traditionally, it has been based on the use of fossil energy sources – coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy. Regional differences in the state of Ukraine’s energy security have been identified. It has been determined that the energy security of Ukraine’s regions is influenced by a set of problems that have both systemic and crisis characteristics. Some of these issues existed long before the full-scale war, while others are the result of russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. We have identified the key problems that significantly impact the energy resilience of the regions. Strategic directions for ensuring the energy security of Ukraine’s regions have been defined. It is noted that in the context of the ongoing full-scale war, the energy security of Ukraine’s regions remains one of the key strategic issues, covering a wide range of challenges – from infrastructure destruction to cybersecurity threats and investment shortages. Analysis of the situation indicates that, currently, a significant part of the energy system still relies on traditional energy sources, fuel imports, and centralized management models. It has been concluded that the energy security of Ukraine’s regions remains an important and complex challenge, requiring a system approach and coordinated actions from all participants in the process. The development of renewable energy, infrastructure modernization, and the implementation of innovative technologies create a strong foundation for ensuring sustainable energy supply. Only through the joint efforts of the State, business, and society can energy resilience be achieved, which is a guarantee of national security and the country’s economic development.
