Abstract:
The main goal of the study is to substantiate the theoretical and methodological basis and to develop practical recommendations for accelerating Ukraine’s transition to renewable energy sources (RES). The work is based on a comprehensive methodological approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative methods – systems, comparative, and statistical analyses, as well as the CAGR and GAP-analysis methods. This approach made it possible to identify and substantiate ways to address key problems. The study identified three main issues: the need to balance the energy system – the technical requirement for balancing intermittent generation (solar and wind power plants) has been calculated, which requires a threefold increase in the capacity of pumped-storage hydroelectric plants (PSHP) and the development of smart grid (SMART-grids) technology; disproportions in the RES sector – the current «green tariff» primarily encourages the development of solar energy. Addressing these issues requires a tariff review to encourage other types of renewable energy; financing – the assertion about funding cessation has been disproved, as over UAH 5.3 billion in grant funds have been allocated to green projects under the «GreenDIM» program for 2024–2025. The practical significance of this article lies in providing specific recommendations to government authorities, investors, and enterprises on developing incentive programs, attracting private capital, and modernizing infrastructure. Emphasis has been placed on the importance of implementing international technology transfer – drawing on the experience of Switzerland and the EU – which forms the foundation for an innovative economy. Further research should focus on spatial analysis of renewable energy resources and the development of energy efficiency support programs. Transitioning to renewable energy sources (RES) will contribute to job creation, increase energy security, and improve the environmental situation in the country. The value of this work lies in its comprehensive approach, while its originality is in substantiating the necessity of international technology transfer, particularly the experience of Switzerland and the EU, as the foundation for developing an innovative economy. The use of quantitative methods, such as CAGR and GAP analysis, adds scientific value and rigor to the work, making it a significant contribution to the research on energy security and economic development.

Keywords: RES, Swiss Confederation, EU, Ukraine, international technology transfer, innovative economy, energy security.
