Abstract: The article provides a comprehensive study of the investment support for Ukraine’s agricultural sector in terms of its export and import activities, as one of the key factors of its competitiveness and sustainable development. It is substantiated that investments play not only the role of a source of financial resources but also act as a strategic tool for modernizing production infrastructure, enhancing the export capacity of enterprises, and integrating the sector into global value chains. The aim of the article is to analyze the investment support of Ukraine’s agricultural sector in the context of its export-import activities and to evaluate the impact of foreign investments on the development of its foreign trade potential. Based on the analysis of statistical data from 2014 to 2024, it was found that the agricultural sector retains its status as a stable net exporter, despite crises associated with military aggression and global food instability. Agricultural exports increased from USD 16.7 billion in 2014 to USD 24.7 billion in 2024, while imports grew from USD 6.0 billion to USD 7.6 billion. The peak of the positive trade balance was reached in 2021, comprising USD 19.96 billion. Analysis of FDI dynamics showed a drop to USD 474.8 million in 2016 and a gradual rise to USD 2561.1 million in 2024, reflecting the restoration of foreign partners’ confidence. Conducting a PESTLE analysis allowed for the characterization of political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors affecting the investment environment. Key barriers include the instability of the regulatory framework, military risks, weak logistics infrastructure, high cost of credit resources, and limited access to modern technologies. Five priority investment areas have been identified: technological innovations (precision farming, automation), development of logistics and irrigation systems, equipment renewal, professional training of staff, and the expansion of financial mechanisms. Particular attention is paid to the structure of investor countries: Cyprus, Denmark, and Germany consistently remain among the top five sources of capital inflows. The conclusions highlight that investments contribute to the development of a sustainable export-oriented model of agricultural growth, and the further expansion of Ukraine’s export potential will directly depend on the effectiveness of implemented investment projects, as well as support from the State and the international community. Prospects for further research include a quantitative assessment of the impact of investments on export dynamics, modeling the optimal investment structure, and developing post-war recovery strategies for the agro-industrial complex.
Keywords: investments, export-import activities, foreign trade, agricultural sector, foreign economic activity, competitiveness.
