Abstract: Based on the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for the development of Ukraine’s economy and considering the high level of uncertainty and numerous risks involved in their operations, this article argues the need to explore new approaches to strategic management. Among innovative tools, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies occupy a special place, as they can significantly enhance the processes of preparing and making managerial decisions in business activities. The aim of this study is to analyze the potential applications of AI in the strategic planning of small businesses in Ukraine and to assess its capacity to improve efficiency, innovation, and competitiveness of enterprises. The work utilizes general scientific methods, summarizes the results of research by Ukrainian and foreign authors, as well as reports from international organizations. The application of elements of a systematic approach made it possible to identify the interconnections between the key challenges of SME development and the opportunities for implementing AI-based digital technologies. It is found that integrating artificial intelligence tools into the strategic management process allows for the automation of internal and external environment analysis, rationalization of resource allocation, improved accuracy of trend forecasting, and the assurance of efficient strategy implementation control. The functionalities of AI include: shaping the company’s mission, defining long-term goals, evaluating strategic alternatives, choosing the optimal development strategy, monitoring its implementation, and managing risks. At the same time, key barriers to implementation have been identified, namely: limited financial resources, a lack of high-quality data, the need for specialized staff training, legal aspects, resistance to change, as well as adherence to ethical standards and cybersecurity requirements. Further research should be aimed at developing practical recommendations for adapting existing artificial intelligence tools to the characteristics of Ukrainian SMEs, as well as at creating mechanisms to reduce integration barriers. The use of AI can become a significant factor in enhancing the resilience of enterprises, ensuring their competitiveness, and promoting more active integration into the global digital environment, which aligns with current economic development trends.
Keywords: artificial intelligence, enterprise, small and medium-sized enterprises, decision-making, strategic management.
