Abstract:
The article provides a comprehensive analysis of modern warehouse management systems (WMS) as a key tool for the digital transformation of warehouse logistics. It looks at WMS architecture, its modular structure, and capabilities for optimizing core warehouse processes. The integration of WMS with ERP systems, IoT devices, robotics, drones, as well as the use of artificial intelligence and predictive analytics, is analyzed in detail. The article also provides statistics on the global WMS market, identifies leading providers, and highlights key industry development trends. The market shows positive growth driven by the need to speed up order processing in omnichannel retail, the activation of digital logistics transformation, and growing focus on optimizing warehouse processes due to the complexity of global supply chains. Studies have shown that almost 93% of warehouses worldwide used some form of WMS software. The top five suppliers account for 44% of the WMS market. The global warehouse management system market has been segmented by deployment level, type of offering, functions, service types, and software type. The economic aspects of implementing WMS have been identified, including costs, benefits, and payback period, as well as the risks related to technical, organizational, and personnel factors. The stages of WMS implementation have been summarized, and possible challenges in the process of digital transformation of warehouse operations have been outlined, including high initial investments and implementation costs, the need for access to software, configuration and integration with existing systems, security and data sequestration risks, and the need for deep transformation of corporate culture and business processes. The conclusions highlight that implementing WMS significantly increases operational efficiency and the accuracy of warehouse processes, and the future of such systems is linked to transitioning to autonomous, high-tech logistics ecosystems. Future research directions in this area shall include exploring the shift to fully autonomous warehouse management systems with minimal staff involvement, using intelligent self-learning WMS, as well as the process of integrating WMS into a unified digital supply chain platform.
