Abstract:
The article presents a comprehensive historiographical analysis of the Ukrainian experience of studying leadership and management styles in the system of labor relations. The relevance of the topic is determined by the fact that in the context of labor market transformation, the spread of new staff management models, the growing importance of transferable competencies, the increasing uncertainty of the socioeconomic environment, and higher requirements for employees’ quality of working life, leadership is becoming one of the key factors of organizational efficiency and stability of labor relations. At the same time, despite a significant body of Ukrainian studies in management, organizational psychology, social and labor relations, and human resource management, there is still no integral historiographical generalization of the development of leadership studies specifically in connection with the evolution of labor relations. Therefore, the present study aims to partially fill this scientific gap. The aim of the article is to systematize the Ukrainian scholarly contribution to leadership and management styles in labor relations, to identify the main stages of its development, thematic areas, methodological approaches, and research gaps. The methodological framework of the study includes historiographical, problem-chronological, systemic, and comparative methods. The information base consists of Ukrainian and foreign scholarly publications representing theoretical, psychological, organizational-managerial, competency-based, and human-centered approaches to leadership. The study reveals that the Ukrainian historiography of the issue has gone through several stages of development: from a general theoretical understanding of social and labor relations to contemporary interdisciplinary studies in which leadership is interpreted as a multidimensional factor of group dynamics, employees’ professional well-being, organizational efficiency, managerial adaptability, and the development of HR competencies. It is determined that the key thematic areas of Ukrainian research include socioeconomic, psychological, organizational-managerial, competency-based, and human-centered approaches. It is also found that the psychological and competency-based areas are the most elaborated, whereas the institutional influence of management styles on the quality of labor relations, crisis-driven transformations of the labor environment, and the historiographical synthesis of the issue remain insufficiently developed. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the comprehensive systematization of the Ukrainian experience of studying leadership and management styles from a historiographical perspective. The practical value of the findings lies in their possible use for further academic research, for updating educational courses in management, labor economics, and organizational psychology, and for improving managerial practices in Ukrainian organizations.

Keywords: leadership; management styles; labor relations; social and labor relations; historiography; staff management; organizational psychology.
