Abstract:
The relevance of this problem is driven by the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, which has fundamentally altered the operating environment for the agro-industrial complex and heightened the requirements for enterprise competitiveness. Traditional management models proved insufficiently adaptive to the destruction of infrastructure, loss of land banks, and logistics disruptions. In this context, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is transforming from an ethical supplement into a strategic tool for ensuring resilience and enhancing competitiveness – the ability of a business to withstand shocks and restore efficiency. The aim of this article is to examine the mechanism of CSR’s influence on the formation of resilience and competitiveness within the corporate governance systems of leading Ukrainian agricultural holdings under wartime challenges. The study employs methods of conceptual analysis of regulatory documents (ISO 26000:2010, UN Global Compact), logical generalization to systematize CSR principles, comparative analysis of holdings’ management practices, as well as statistical and graphical methods to assess financial and social indicators. The activities of Ukraine's largest agricultural holdings were researched based on their financial and non-financial reporting. According to the research results, it was found that the depth of CSR principle integration into the corporate strategies of agricultural holdings is significantly uneven. A specific wartime dimension of CSR was identified, where a substantial portion of resources is directed toward direct support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and mobilized employees. It was determined that a company's level of resilience correlates with the quality of its interaction with local communities: agricultural holdings with developed social programs demonstrated greater production stability, preservation of human capital, and a higher level of competitiveness. The scientific novelty lies in the substantiation of CSR as a management tool for anti-fragility that forms a reputational buffer and stakeholder loyalty, allowing companies to adapt to extreme external disturbances and strengthen their competitive positions. The study proposes further harmonization of Ukrainian non-financial reporting practices for agricultural holdings with the requirements of the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) to increase their investment attractiveness, competitiveness, and stability during the postwar recovery process.
