Abstract:
The article is concerned with defining and assessing the natural potential of Ukraine for the development of a bio-oriented economy. It is defined that this conception has spread in the last three decades and is developing rapidly in European countries. Therefore, it is proposed to assess Ukraine’s potential in the formation and development of sectors that are classified as bio-economic. The following natural factors, which are determined as the basis for development of a bio-oriented economy in Ukraine, are analyzed: area of agricultural land, area of the salted and irrigated agricultural land, harvesting of realizable wood, forest felling area, water bio-resources and water objects area for commercial aquaculture. It is defined that the natural potential for development of a bio-oriented economy in Ukraine is quite powerful, but certain factors are characterized by volatile dynamics. It is proved that the existing land potential is not always used rationally, there are certain imbalances, which negatively affect the environment, economic efficiency and the national economy as a whole. The availability of aquatic bio-resources is assessed and it is defined that this indicator is characterized by a significant fluctuation. For the formation and development of a bio-oriented economy in Ukraine, this tendency appears negative, as water bio-resources are raw materials for the production of bio-products, which is an indicator of the level of development of the bio-oriented economy in any European country. The area of water objects for commercial aquaculture is analyzed, as a result of which it is found that there is a steady decrease in this indicator in dynamics, which is generally negative, as aquaculture also belongs to branches of a bio-oriented economy, and the area of water objects is of big importance for the development of this industry.

Keywords: bio-oriented economy, natural potential, environment, bio-resources, bio-mass, agricultural land, commercial aquaculture.
