Abstract:
The article focuses on the analysis of stock market volatility in the context of changes in the country’s political and economic situation, as well as on developing a methodology for assessing the impact of external political and economic factors on the functioning of the stock market. The relevance of this research topic is substantiated considering that stock markets serve as one of the key indicators of the state of the national and global economy in contemporary conditions. It is found that a timely analysis of the impact of external political and economic factors on the stock market can form a basis for creating the most relevant forecasts for its future functioning and for developing recommendations for a wide range of stakeholders (investors, government regulators, and financial market participants). It is further found that the influence of external political and economic factors on the stock market is manifested through the response of its performance indicators to changes in the political and economic situation. Such a reaction of the stock market causes fluctuations in the values of indicators that characterize its functioning. The study involved the use of dynamic analysis methods, variation analysis, descriptive methods, and statistical analysis. The application of these methods made it possible to examine trends in trading volumes of financial instruments at organized capital market operators as one of the main indicators of stock market activity, assess the degree of volatility of this indicator, and identify key events in the country’s political situation. The importance of international ratings reflecting the sociopolitical situation in the country, as well as indicators of economic dynamics in the operation of the national economy, was analyzed. A sequence for evaluating the impact of political and economic factors on the stock market has been developed, comprising the stages of setting goals and objectives, preparing an information base, calibration and consolidation, analytical comparison, and interpretation. Applying the proposed sequence makes it possible to determine the direction and magnitude of the influence of external political and economic factors. The priority directions for further research in the selected field are outlined, which involve testing the proposed evaluation sequence and developing predictive models for changes in stock market performance indicators, taking into account the regularities identified that are based on it.
