Abstract:
The successful functioning and development of modern business entities require consideration of environmental guidelines, which have become key benchmarks for creating strategic competitive advantages. The aim of the article is to identify the prospects for gaining strategic advantages for agrifood enterprises based on green innovations and carbon neutrality. An analysis was conducted on the current level of innovation activity of Ukrainian agrifood enterprises in comparison with practices in EU countries. The results showed that the share of innovation-active agrifood companies is growing and stands at 29.1%. The proportion of enterprises that consistently implement innovative products is 40.1%, and it has doubled during the years of the war. At the same time, compared to European practice, the level of innovation activity of Ukrainian companies remains significantly lower. It was determined that one of the key directions for greening agri-food production on a global and national scale is its decarbonization. Innovations aimed at reducing the carbon footprint have a long-term systemic impact on the environmental, economic, and institutional aspects of competitiveness in the agri-food sector. They have a strong potential to create a proactive decarbonization model that lowers emissions without sacrificing productivity and improves resource efficiency in agricultural production. It has been found that in agriculture, the main source of carbon emissions is crop production, which accounts for 99% of the total. In livestock farming, the main source of CO2 emissions is the cattle industry. A mechanism has been substantiated for creating long-term competitive advantages based on reducing carbon emissions in agri-food production and turning emissions into investment assets for business entities in the sector. It has also been determined that implementing eco-friendly carbon innovations requires a systemic integration of participants in agri-food chains and the incorporation of environmental values into their business strategies. A list of the main promising tools for decarbonizing the domestic agri-food sector has been systematized: minimal tillage technologies, their bioregulation and restoration, the use of modern feed additives in animal husbandry, precision fermentation technologies in the food industry, the implementation of automated carbon emissions control systems in production, transitioning to renewable energy sources (RES), and the introduction and spread of carbon certificate use in domestic practice.

Keywords: climate neutrality; competitive advantages; carbon footprint; decarbonization; agri-food production; food products.
